Project Dining Set

I always have projects running around my head, but rarely start them and even more rarely finish them. My current one however is a lot of fun so far, and I get pretty much instant gratification, which probably helps. So what's the project? Reupholstering the dining room chairs. I bought this indoor/outdoor fabric like a year ago and I'm FINALLY getting around to it.

Before:
(Blah! I hate that color!)

After:

I actually don't love the new fabric, but I like it a lot, so it will do until I get an itch to update again. I feel so crafty and industrious! It's left me feeling happy despite our cars issues (no, that's not a typo. Ugh!)

3 down, 3 to go :-)

Alsea Falls

Hollyn is about 3.5 months old now. I never seem to get around to updates on the month birthdays Smile. She started sleeping really well over the last couple weeks, consistently sleeping from about 8:30pm-6:30am, then right back down after eating for another couple hours. Last week she slept a full 12 hours straight! Then starting the day after that one, she back-tracked. Well, according to my definition at least. She’s been going to bed earlier, but waking up an additional time around 3am. Ugh. I preferred the old routine. Another new aspect… about a week ago I started finding Hollyn on her tummy some of the times I went to get her up from sleeping. I was not excited expecting a hard phase ahead as she would have trouble going to, or back to sleep if she continued to roll over. However, she’s apparently learned to just sleep on her tummy. Since last Friday she now rolls over immediately upon being placed in bed and sleeps as usual. The only difference is now she wakes up and cries immediately instead of spending some time cooing to herself as she had been doing. Could be worse though. As long as she seems to be able to sleep that way, I can’t complain. Plus, I think it will only be a benefit to her progression.

Hollyn has gotten very spitty. She likes to blow razberries as she makes her sounds. We just love her “talking.” My favorite thing is when she starts doing it while I’m singing to and rocking her. I think she’s trying to sing along. If I can ever get a video of it, it would be awesome. It is just so stinkin’ cute!

***********************************************************

Yesterday we attempted to drive up to Mary’s Peak for a Sunday afternoon activity (Those boys do NOT do the “restful Sabbath” thing very well. They just drive me and Brian nuts instead.) Upon arrival we found the road closed for construction so we drove on to Alsea Falls instead. It is such a gorgeous place. I can’t believe I live so close to so many beautiful creations of God. Anyway, we had a good time. No one fell down the Falls, although Asher slipped and muddied his bum and back. Winking smile121125127130134139151153154156168

About a Girl

Hollyn is 2.5 months old now.  She weighs 10 lbs and is 22.5 inches long.  50th percentile for length, but only 17th for weight.  She should appreciate that when she’s older. Smile  Hollyn has just in the last few days started wanting to spend more time awake and is getting harder to put down for naps as easily, however she still does some nice solid naps.  Last night for the 2nd time she slept for 10 hours straight!  We love our little Hollyn!!!

About a Boy

I never did post about Asher’s birthday, or Brennan’s I think. *Sigh* I’m such a horrible mother. So, in honor of Asher’s approaching half-birthday on the 19th of this month, here’s a post just for him.

Asher, you are such a joy to raise. I have been smitten with you from the very first time I saw you with those big blue eyes and LONG eyelashes. You have the funnest personality ever. You laugh at so many things that we would never expect, like listening to the comedian Brian Regan in the car Smile.

You have been called an “artist” by different nursery teachers because you love to color. Currently, you are in to trying to write letters and you’re pretty good at several of them. You do however get VERY frustrated by your lack of ability to make things exactly as you want them (like a true artist!) If your letter or shape or picture isn’t just like the example or the way you expect it to be, you melt down into a tantrum because it “doesn’t match” or “isn’t right!” You also give similar reactions if someone tries to help you do something. If I ask you to do something, and Brennan does it first instead, you also have a tantrum then. As a little perfectionist, you like the world to be how you envision it and don’t settle for less.

You love to play with your big brother and can keep up amazingly well with his pretend play. You have a great imagination. Recently I asked you about a scratch on your nose (Presumably received by your fingernail as you slept) and you answered, “some birds flew in through the window with their mouths and were getting my nose, and they ate it. That’s how I got the owie.” Another example is when I asked you to tell me a story and as I started for you “once upon a time…” you went on, “there was a little boy…” and ended up telling a great story about a monster stepping on the school and the little boy who saved the day.

You are the king of sound effects. Most of them are versions of “shhhh” but ironically you do them VERY loud. Keeping your “shhh’s” quiet during sacrament meeting is a challenge, as is keeping dry if you’re very close by when you do it. Winking smile

I love you so very much Asher. Dad and I are so very thankful for you and the joy (and spice) your add to our lives.
